[rs=2] | Physical Description Connor is a young, strapping man of slightly above average height. At 6'1", he stands above most in a crowd without having to worry about ducking under door frames. He is lanky like a beanpole, with sharp features and a strong jaw, but with one hell of a smile. Maybe it has something to do with his knack for not giving up on anything, but there always seems to be a little hope in his brown eyes. He has curly brown hair that he tries to keep kempt, but sometimes it insists on making funny animal shapes. He shifts from a scraggly unshaven face to not depending on the weather and the forethought to buy razors. His style is almost always casual, t-shirts and jeans are a staple. So are hoodies and Chuck Taylor Converse. When on the clock, Connor wears a simple back suit, black tie, and occasionally a black corduroy vest that cushions his side a bit from his shoulder holster holding his Jericho 941. He usually carries his shield on his belt, just under the hem of his suit coat. Personality Connor Hawkins is a serious but easy going young man in his early to twenties. He's in a way the perfect big brother and the nicest, Geeky-est guy in the group - don't test him though, he'll defend it! He is extremely chivalrous, almost to the point of chauvinism. He tends to get in over his head when a girl gets in trouble. Connor is a smart-ass to a great many people. He never really knows when to turn it off, and it always comes back to bite him in the ass. Connor has had trust issues all of his life and holds most people at arm’s-length. It takes a lot for him to let someone into his life at an emotional level, despite the fact that Connor had a well enough childhood. He still treats everyone with a decent and at times comical demeanor, but not that many people really know that much about him. Connor at heart, is a gentleman. He hates it when anybody gets hurt or is in trouble, but when it's a woman, watch out. His chivalry makes him vulnerable to be manipulated by the opposite sex. Which is to say that he can be a little blindsided by a pretty face, but hey, he's only human. Connor generally keeps to himself despite his mouth, only piping up when he feels the need to or when he's spoken to. He keeps himself busy when he isn't working, keeping his body in shape, and tinkering away at his rusty, ramshackle motorcycle. Connor has always had a healthy thirst for knowledge and he has the attitude that if there is something he needs to know and doesn't know it, he will find it out. The code of conduct that Connor lives by mostly pertains to his work. In a nutshell it is: Do not kill anybody as much as is able, or by inaction or negligence allow someone to die. Do not hurt people unnecessarily, and go to great lengths to keep the innocent from harm. Saving lives is paramount over all, even over catching the bad guys. Needless to say there are times when this code causes problems. It puts Connor's life at risk, but that's part of the idea. He's taking on a responsibility by being a cop, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Likes:

Somewhere he has a mother, or had a mother, but Connor doesn't know her, hasn't known her, and honestly has no burning desire to meet her. At this stage in his life, he has accepted that he is an orphan, meeting his biological parents isn't going to change that. He was found on a bench outside the subway train in New York, taken to the Catholic orphanage and that's where he stayed. His childhood, despite it's ridiculously tragic beginnings, was not all bad. The Sisters at the orphanage took care of him giving the newborn the name Micheal after the archangel, Hawkins after the adventurous child in Treasure Island and Connor after the street cop that found him. The constantly changing staff of the orphanage always made life interesting for Connor growing up. The only constant in his life was Father Leonardo Reynolds, the patron of the home. The man always made sure to keep an eye on him - which was a chore most days - and spoke to him like he was an adult, which Connor liked. Sure, he might have gotten into trouble here and there, and yeah, he had a habit of skipping school to read old paperback detective books at the newsstands across the city, but on the whole, Connor was a normal, well intentioned kid. His childhood was met with no complications, although Connor's home life, or lack thereof, coupled with his affinity for 1940's gumshoes made him a target both at school and in the halls of the orphanage. It made young Connor turn his attentions away from things dealing with real people and towards machines-engines in particular. People could be mean when they could instead be kind, but machines just where. They only didn't work when something was broken. Connor could deal with that-broken things could be fixed. He still believed in people as a whole, but he just didn't know how to deal with them. Connor graduated high school soon enough - but not as soon as he would have liked - and on his eighteenth birthday was promptly kicked out of the care of the orphanage by the state. He kept in touch with friend Father Reynolds and helped out at the home when he could, but he found himself as an adult now, in theory if not in practice, and needed to make a life for himself. After working as a mechanic in Queens for the last bit of his teenage years, Connor applied for the police academy, and after a few years, he was a patrolman in the NYPD. Connor was ambitious, and single, so he climbed the ranks at a steady pace. Coupled with his want to help others, he reached his goal of Detective by his twenty-fifth birthday. For the first six months, Connor dealt with usual cases: Theft, Domestic Disappearances, even a couple of murders. The cases, although important and difficult in their own individual ways, where all in a days work for the Detective. |
